Client: BEXity GmbH<\/h5>

The BEXity GmbH<\/a> is an Austrian company specializing in transport logistics and warehousing. With its comprehensive general cargo network in Austria and brand logistics with warehouse locations in Upper Austria, BEXity has established itself as a reliable service provider and partner in the food and fast-moving consumer goods sectors. With around 800 employees distributed across 16 locations, BEXity continues to set industry standards for high-quality and reliable transport services. <\/p>

Initial Situation and Problem Solution<\/h5>

In December 2019, Mutares SE Co. KGaA acquired the business of Q Logistics GmbH from the Austrian Federal Railways – Holding Aktiengesellschaft (\u00d6BB) as part of a platform acquisition. This strengthened Mutares’ existing segment in the Goods Services sector. Due to the complete integration of Q Logistics into \u00d6BB, it was necessary to carve out Q Logistics’ IT from the group, which was to be completed within 12 months. <\/p>

During the IT Carve-Out, all employees of the newly formed BEXity at 16 locations in Austria had to be transferred to a new IT landscape. Additionally, the ERP system and all other applications had to be separated. To support the local IT department in implementing and maintaining the necessary IT infrastructure in the future, a local IT service provider with comprehensive expertise was sought at the beginning of the project. The main tasks of the service provider, in addition to setting up a new IT infrastructure at the locations and at a central data center location, were to include the necessary client rollout at the individual locations within the TSA runtime. In parallel, future service processes for the Future Mode of Operation had to be redefined and an implementation strategy developed. <\/p>

“Being able to complete this project and its associated scope in just twelve months while maintaining business continuity was an enormous success for all involved. digatus managed to implement the defined concept very successfully from the start, together with the IT service provider, all other providers, and internal colleagues. Without digatus’ expertise, the implementation of such a project within this timeframe would have been very difficult.” <\/p>

Another central challenge within the IT Carve-Out was the separation and reconstruction of the SAP system. Due to the very good support from the seller’s side, the SAP system was already handed over separately. This allowed the necessary infrastructure and knowledge transfer for the SAP system to be completed within a short time. In parallel, all applications were set up anew and their functionality thoroughly tested. The necessary interfaces had to be adapted or newly developed. Due to the large number of applications and the associated complexity, stringent and comprehensive planning and coordination with all parties involved was required throughout the entire project. <\/p>

The SAP system and all other applications were transferred from the original OEBB infrastructure to the new environment in a single weekend as part of a structured big bang migration. Through the successful migration, the foundation for BEXity’s independence regarding infrastructure and the most important applications was already ensured after nine months. Within the remaining three months, employees and locations throughout Austria had to be supplied with new hardware and integrated into the central IT infrastructure. Due to the influence of Covid-19, this required clearly structured risk management that continuously considered the special environmental factors. <\/p>

By developing various planning scenarios together with the local IT service provider, it was ensured that all rollouts at the locations could be successfully carried out within the designated time. A particular challenge was the migration of over 150 customer connections, as these had to be migrated individually in coordination with BEXity’s customers. Through close tracking of all involved service providers, this transition was successfully completed shortly before the end of the TSA period. <\/p>

Customer Benefits<\/h5>

BEXity was transitioned to full IT independence by the end of 2020. BEXity benefited from consistently clear project management while maintaining full cost transparency.
By selecting an Austrian IT service provider, a new IT infrastructure and a helpdesk with the associated service processes were implemented.
