What has changed for you personally with the birth of your daughter?<\/h5>

Actually, everything has changed for me. The previous daily routine follows a completely new rhythm, and time generally becomes scarcer. Now, efficiency and good time management are especially in demand to best combine work, family, and personal interests. The great art is to remain productive despite the initial lack of sleep. <\/p>

As a salesperson, I’m of course on the road a lot, so it’s important to consciously take time for family. Since our founders are family people with children of their own, I find great support and understanding at digatus. <\/p>

For me, it was also clear from the beginning that I wanted to see my daughter grow up. That’s why I decided early on to take parental leave twice for one month each. This is a good opportunity for me to spend a lot of time with her at a stretch. <\/p>

My wife and I structured ourselves well from the beginning and divided the upcoming tasks between us. To ensure she definitely has enough time for herself, Wednesday evening belongs entirely to my wife. We also alternate the ‘night shifts’ – changing, feeding, and rocking back to sleep – on weekends. This way, each of us can sleep in sometimes. <\/p>

Especially in the first twelve months, my wife still takes on most of the care. So the first period was still relatively calm for me. It gets exciting when my wife starts working again. Then many more organizational questions arise: Who takes the little one to daycare? Who picks her up again? Do we get the care times we would like? At this point, digatus offers me a lot of flexibility, which allows me to compensate well for my wife’s relatively rigid working hours (she works as a teacher). <\/p>

What about the professional side?<\/h5>

Today’s technologies allow me to work from any location and with any device. Thanks to video telephony, I can, for example, participate in meetings remotely or make calls via hands-free in the car. By having the option to work from home, I often save myself the morning and evening drive through Munich’s rush hour, giving me more time for my family. During breaks, I can also spend some time with my daughter or support my wife with household chores. <\/p>

As a former competitive athlete, I also try to incorporate sports into everyday life, as a balance and to stay fit. Due to the flexible working hours at digatus without core working hours and fixed office presence times, I am able to train for a round before work. <\/p>

Of course, balancing family, work, and sports is sometimes a bit stressful. But since I’m not the only family father and not the first dad with parental leave at digatus, I experience a lot of support and understanding from my colleagues here. <\/p>

With the introduction of parental allowance in 2007, fathers are also increasingly encouraged to take parental leave. The full benefits over a total of 14 months are only paid out if both parents take parental leave. One parent can receive full benefits for a maximum of twelve months. Meanwhile, about every third father now takes the opportunity to reduce working hours or stay at home completely for a limited period. Our Sales Manager Florian Owen has also decided to do so.
