Client: Yunex Traffic (Yunex GmbH)
Yunex Traffic is a world-leading company in the field of intelligent traffic management. Formerly part of Siemens Mobility (Siemens ITS), Yunex Traffic has been an independent company since 2021.
Yunex Traffic’s headquarters is located in Munich and is also the largest site. The administration, IT, and product development are based here. The largest plant is located in Poole, United Kingdom.
In addition to hardware for traffic management, Yunex Traffic offers the applications necessary to intelligently network the hardware and control traffic, traffic lights, and digital traffic signs. Furthermore, Yunex Traffic provides applications for traffic simulation. With the help of these forecasts, for example, traffic planning can be adjusted for the future.
With over 3,500 employees from 62 nations, Yunex Traffic is represented in more than 25 countries. Yunex Traffic has an annual turnover of more than 650 million euros. Yunex Traffic’s intelligent traffic solutions are used in over 600 cities worldwide to make traffic greener, safer, and more sustainable, including in metropolises such as Dubai, London, Berlin, and Bogota.
Initial Situation and Challenge
After the sale of the former Siemens ITS division and the rebranding to Yunex Traffic, the new company had to stand on its own feet to dissolve the connections and dependencies to Siemens Mobility systems. This included rebuilding the entire IT infrastructure and migrating mailboxes, file servers, SharePoints, team applications, and more. As part of the Siemens Group, all over 50 locations worldwide were fully integrated into the Siemens IT infrastructure and managed from there. Some services were covered by local IT employees (IT Site Engineers). A particular challenge was that many of these locations were zebra sites, which would be used by both Yunex and Siemens Mobility / Siemens AG in the future. Additionally, there were still long delivery times and delays with hardware, which required multiple re-planning.
Thanks to the excellent collaboration with the Digatus team, Yunex Traffic was able to successfully separate all EUC services from Siemens and migrate all 3,500 users in more than 25 countries to a modern cloud-based computing environment. The global carve-out from Siemens was an extremely complex project with a fixed timeline, and the successful outcome was only possible due to digatus’ solution-oriented and customer-focused approach. I very much look forward to working with Digatus again in the future. “

Solution
digatus provided the following functions to support the project for Yunex Traffic:
Client Order Management
As the migration also involved transitioning to DaaS (Device as a Service) for workplace provisioning, new computers for employees had to be ordered and provided. After determining the requirements for new computers for all employees, these were ordered. In total, over 3,500 new computers were ordered and delivered to colleagues in 24 countries.
Rollout Lead
When rolling out a new workplace, there are many additional topics and workflows to consider besides the computer itself. For example, the planning of the rollout must be coordinated with the Exchange team, the helpdesk, or the telephony team to ensure that the respective services are available for everyone at the right time and enable employees to transition as smoothly as possible into the new environment. Additionally, security policies must be implemented, a Windows image created, SharePoints and file servers migrated, and much more.
As a delay in any of these areas would have significant impacts on the entire project and the rollout of the new workplace, digatus took over the central coordination between the various teams. Handling the old workplaces was also part of the tasks, i.e., logging off, locking, and terminating the old Siemens computers. Furthermore, processes for worldwide collection of old devices were set up. These were handed over to an external partner to ensure data deletion according to DIN standards and the reuse of devices for sustainability reasons.
Customer Benefits
Thanks to years of experience with carve-outs in large companies like Siemens, digatus was able to support Yunex Traffic not only in a targeted manner but also very efficiently. The project immediately resulted in a modernization of IT workplaces through the implementation of new hardware and adjustments to the software environment, allowing employees to enjoy a faster and more pleasant environment tailored to Yunex Traffic – this, in turn, raised the IT landscape to a standard above the industry average.
digatus ordered the necessary hardware in consultation with the affected teams and considering their needs. Various workstreams including Exchange Migration, Teams Calling, Windows Image, Software Distribution, and others had to be coordinated and kept up to date. The good coordination and collaboration between digatus and Yunex ensured quick decisions and a pleasant transition for all employees.
Yunex Traffic can thus continue to work on developing innovative mobility ecosystems and future-proof services for the infrastructure and traffic sector to optimize the mobility of tomorrow.
