Hannes Götz
IT Consultant at digatus
“My career has been a steady development”
Even during my school days, I had a great interest in computers & technology and already had my first contact with the exciting world of IT. Therefore, it was obvious for me to stay in IT professionally. My professional career began for me in 2016 with an apprenticeship as an IT management assistant. I was fortunate enough to successfully complete this training in a globally operating real estate investment company. With the choice of training as an IT management assistant, I wanted to bridge the gap between the classic computer scientist and a commercial profession, as a bridge between IT and the respective business, which is also the idea of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce behind this profession. Which turned out to be a good choice, because especially as an IT consultant it is very important to understand both sides (IT and business). I spent the first years of my professional career in the internal IT department, where I worked as a supporter and IT administrator. My tasks included supporting employees with technical questions and managing IT systems. During this time, I learned a lot about the basics of information technology and gained my first insights into the world of work.
After moving to another company, I was assigned my first smaller, internal IT projects and was thus able to gain my first experiences and get a taste of project work.
The motivation for the path to digatus
My first meeting with digatus was different from the usual application processes. At a joint breakfast event, I had the opportunity to get to know the company better. The familiar atmosphere and the open discussions I experienced there impressed me deeply. This encounter laid the foundation for my decision to switch to digatus. The company’s unconventional approach to cultivating personal relationships and attaching particular importance to networking appealed to me very much. Therefore, I stayed in contact after the event and finally switched to digatus some time later.
Why I chose IT Consulting
The move to IT consulting at digatus was a conscious and well-considered decision for me. digatus offered me the opportunity to further develop my skills in the area of consulting and project management. This step corresponded exactly to my professional vision, which led me away from pure IT work to the exciting world of project work. I felt the urge to face new challenges and expand my knowledge on a broader level.
A journey through many exciting projects
My time at digatus began in September 2018 with an exciting project at an internationally operating medical technology manufacturer. In this global transformation project, which aimed at migrations to Windows 10, Office 365 and Exchange Online, I took over the role of PMO (Project Management Office). In close cooperation with experienced team members from digatus, I acquired basic project management skills. After a short period in Hypercare Support (this is a certain period of time after a go-live in which more support is provided to the users and there is also an increased support effort due to the changes), I then moved to the Exchange Online Migration area and took over the position of Technical Transition Manager. Here I was responsible for the coordination of the migration plans and acted as a contact person for special migrations. This challenging task enabled me to gain deeper insights into technical coordination and communication.
Promotion to Consultant
After about three years at digatus, I was promoted to Consultant. This promotion was a recognition of my project experience as well as my acquired certifications, including ITIL & Prince 2. In my new role, I took on even more responsibility. I led project teams, was responsible for my own workstreams in projects, supported my younger colleagues as a mentor and was able to further expand my skills in consulting. In the Business Unit IT MAT, I now work on the complete spectrum of IT projects, from small M&A acquisitions for private equity investors to huge transformation projects in globally operating large corporations. This enables me to gain many different experiences.
Outlook and advice
My personal success story should serve as an inspiration for aspiring IT system administrators. I would like to convey to them that personal relationships, commitment and the willingness to face new challenges can be the key to a fulfilling career. If you harbor similar ambitions, I encourage you to go down this path and contact us. Because I too have advanced my professional development through these values and steps and am excited about the upcoming chapters of my journey at digatus that still await me.
