Monday
6:15 AM
A new week as a Junior Consultant at digatus has commenced. I close the apartment door behind me and, still somewhat tired, make my way to the train station. Upon arrival, I get my first coffee to wake up and a small bite from the bakery for breakfast.
6:55 AM
I stand on the platform, await the ICE, and subsequently board. During the journey, I first check Slack and digatusNet for updates and upcoming events at digatus. To remain current on the ongoing project and to better plan my week with the client, I also review my emails.
9:00 AM
Arrival at the client’s site. The new work week commences with stand-up meetings to discuss the previous week’s developments and progress, and to plan the upcoming week as comprehensively as possible. To this end, pending tasks are clearly defined, prioritized, and allocated to the respective team members.
12:30 PM
Together with colleagues and the client’s staff, we proceed to the canteen for lunch. After sharing anecdotes from our weekends, discussions invariably shift to work and the current project.
1:30 PM
In the afternoon, general routine tasks are undertaken, such as preparing the previous week’s report and updating the roadmap or project plan. Subsequently, I commence processing the tasks assigned to me during the meeting.
6:00 PM
I gather my belongings, proceed to the hotel, and check in. For dinner, I meet a colleague in the city, where we comfortably settle into a restaurant and conclude the evening.
Tuesday
7:15 AM
Tuesday commences with a substantial and relaxed breakfast at the hotel. Concurrently, I review and respond to initial emails on my smartphone. Subsequently, I proceed to the client’s site via public transportation.
8:15 AM
Following a coffee with colleagues, I commence work to implement the points discussed during the stand-up meeting.
10:30 AM
During a conference call with the client’s Asian subsidiary, we discuss the current project status and provide mutual updates. This meeting also generates several action items for me, which I initially note in bullet points and subsequently transfer to my O365 Planner.
12:45 PM
For a change, we drive with colleagues to the city center, select a pleasant restaurant, and have lunch there.
6:00 PM
The on-site project tasks have been completed. For the remainder of the week, I will be available to the client by phone for any potential inquiries. I gather my belongings and proceed back to the train station. I am now en route to another client for a second project. As the ICE train is delayed, I spontaneously opt for dinner at my preferred fast-food establishment.
8:45 PM
Arrival and check-in at the hotel. As there is nothing of interest on television, I choose to utilize the time productively and briefly review the presentation for the following day.
An Engaging Week of Meetings, Office Work, and Travel Activities
Wednesday
8:45 AM
New day, new city, new project. Upon arrival at the client’s site, the first order of business is a kick-off meeting to introduce all project members and to establish a unified understanding of the project and its defined objectives.
12:30 PM
Together with several project participants, we procure a light meal from the nearby bakery today. This quickly fosters interesting and engaging discussions not only about the project but also regarding the prior experiences and backgrounds of the new team members.
4:00 PM
As this client maintains a presence not only in Germany but also possesses several international subsidiaries, a conference call with America is scheduled to facilitate coordination with the on-site personnel. Given that this subsidiary is particularly deeply integrated into the process at the project’s inception, the meeting will subsequently occur on a weekly basis, naturally accounting for the time difference.
7:00 PM
To inaugurate the project, we join the client for dinner at a steakhouse. This provides an opportunity not only to foster personal acquaintance but also to facilitate the exchange of professional experiences.
Thursday
11:00 AM
Shortly before the conclusion of the initial project tasks, the previously established project requirements unexpectedly change. Consequently, I must assess my prior findings to ascertain their conformity with the revised prerequisites. A short-notice meeting was convened for the afternoon to clearly communicate the amended requirements to all project members.
2:00 PM
The project manager elucidates the rationale behind the subsequent modification of the project requirements and, critically, addresses the resultant implications for our team. All project tasks and deadlines are adjusted accordingly, and any outstanding queries are addressed.
4:00 PM
After packing my belongings, I proceed by taxi to the train station. On the train, I take notes regarding the afternoon meeting to ensure I can accurately recall its discussions at a later juncture. Subsequently, I participate in a conference call with the client’s other involved locations, during which the changes are also communicated to their respective representatives. To the extent permitted by the train’s network, I utilize the remaining time until arrival to complete additional tasks on my agenda.
Friday
7:30 AM
I am en route to the digatus office in Munich. As many colleagues are engaged on-site with clients throughout the week, Fridays are frequently utilized for internal meetings. During these sessions, experiences from various client projects are exchanged, and internal initiatives are advanced.
10:00 AM
Additionally, on Fridays, the “All Hands Meeting” is convened. During this, all team members gather in the conference room to discuss current developments and potential innovations. In today’s meeting, we welcome two new employees to our ranks and review the results of the recent employee survey on innovation. Following the announcement of the venue for this year’s summer event, I will present the outcomes of my recently concluded successful project and share my accumulated experiences with the team.
12:00 PM
On such office days with high attendance, sessions of our digatus academy are also frequently held. Today’s Brownbag Session focuses on IT Due Diligence within the context of M&A or Divestment Deals. Prior to commencement, all participants procure their lunch from the nearby supermarket. As we, the attendees, dine, two experienced colleagues elucidate, through practical examples, the process of conducting IT Due Diligence and highlight key considerations.
1:30 PM
It is now time for several organizational tasks. I commence planning my travel arrangements for the forthcoming week. This involves identifying suitable hotels and booking the requisite train tickets. Furthermore, a travel expense report for the current week must be prepared and submitted to the administration department.
3:00 PM
An engaging match at our highly popular digatus foosball table signals the conclusion of the workday and an eventful week. I proceed to the train station with several colleagues and board the next train home.
