Customer: Yunex Traffic (Yunex GmbH)
Yunex Traffic is a global leader in intelligent traffic management. Formerly part of Siemens Mobility (Siemens ITS), Yunex Traffic has been an independent company since 2021.
The headquarters of Yunex Traffic is located in Munich and is also the largest location. This is where the administration, IT and product development departments are located. The largest plant is located in Poole, United Kingdom.
In addition to the hardware for traffic management, Yunex Traffic offers the applications that are necessary to intelligently network the hardware and to be able to control the traffic as well as traffic lights and digital traffic signs. Furthermore, Yunex Traffic offers applications for traffic simulation. With the help of these forecasts, traffic planning can be adapted for the future, for example.
With over 3,500 employees from 62 nations, Yunex Traffic is present in more than 25 countries. Yunex Traffic has an annual revenue of more than 650 million euros. Yunex Traffic’s intelligent traffic solutions are used in over 600 cities worldwide to make traffic greener, safer and more sustainable. Among others, also in metropolises such as Dubai, London, Berlin or Bogota.
Initial situation and challenges
After the sale of the former Siemens ITS division and the change of name to Yunex Traffic, the new company had to be set up on its own feet in order to remove the connections and dependencies on the Siemens Mobility systems. This involved rebuilding the entire IT infrastructure, migrating mailboxes, file servers, SharePoints, team applications and much more. As part of the Siemens Initial situation and challenges Group, each of the more than 50 locations worldwide was fully integrated into the Siemens IT infrastructure and also managed. Some services were covered by local IT employees (IT site engineers). A particular challenge was that many of the sites were Zebra sites, i.e. in the future they would be used both from Yunex and from Siemens Mobility / Siemens AG. The still ongoing long delivery times and delays for hardware were also factored in, so that rescheduling had to be done a few times.
Thanks to the excellent collaboration with the team at Digatus, Yunex Traffic successfully separated all EUC services from Siemens and migrated all 3500 users across in more than 25 countries to a modern cloud-based computing environment. The global carve-out from Siemens was an extremely complex project with a fixed timeline, and the successful outcome was only possible with the solution orientated and customer first approach from digatus. I very much look forward to working with Digatus again in the future.

Solution
digatus provided the following functions for Yunex Traffic to support the project.
Client Order Management
As the migration also involved changing the workplace provisioning strategy to DaaS (Device as a Service), new computers also had to be ordered and provided for the employees. After determining the requirements for the new computers for all employees, they were ordered. Further support of the manufacturer as well as the staff after the order up to delivery and migration was also ensured.
In total, over 3500 new computers were ordered and delivered to colleagues in 24 countries.
Rollout Lead
When rolling out a new workstation, there are many other issues and workstreams to consider besides the computer itself. For example, the rollout planning must be coordinated with the Exchange Team, Helpdesk or Telephony Team to ensure that the respective services are available to all at the right time and to enable the employees to make the smoothest possible transition to the new environment. Furthermore, security guidelines have to be implemented, a Windows image has to be created, SharePoints and file servers have to be migrated and much more.
Since a delay in any of these topics would have a major impact on the entire project and the rollout of the new workstation, digatus took on the central coordination between the various teams here.
The handling of the old workstations was also part of the tasks, i.e. deregistration, blocking and termination of the old Siemens computers. Furthermore, processes were set up to collect the old devices worldwide. These were handed over to an external partner in order to ensure the deletion of the data according to DIN standards as well as the further utilisation of the devices due to sustainability reasons.
Customer benefits
Thanks to its years of experience with carve outs in large companies such as Siemens, digatus was able to support Yunex Traffic not only in a targeted manner, but also very efficiently. The project directly brought about a modernisation of the IT workplaces through the implementation of new Customer benefits hardware and adaptations to the software environment,
allowing employees to enjoy a faster, nmore pleasant environment adapted to Yunex Traffic – in turn, this raised the IT landscape to a standard above the industry average.
In consultation with the affected teams and taking their needs into account, digatus ordered the necessary hardware. With Exchange Migration, Teams Calling, Windows Image, Software Distribution and others, various workstreams had to be coordinated and kept up to date. The good coordination and cooperation between digatus and Yunex ensured fast decision-making and a pleasant changeover for all employees. Major mailbox problems, for example – which can often occur as a result of such a change – were avoided.
Yunex Traffic can thus continue to work on the development of innovative mobility ecosystems and future-proof services for the infrastructure and transport sector in order to optimise the mobility of tomorrow.
